Key question:
How to deal with what we might call “Glitch - System and Error” on an individual and political level.
How to motivate people for democracy in these circumstances? To convince them that participation in the creative coexistence called democracy is the only right solution? To make them realise that democracy is not primarily about voting for this or that party, but can only consist in the activity of the individual in relation to others?
…………
Conditions:
Every personal problem, whether social, economic or related to climate change, is directly linked to the political. We look to decision-makers to take action, to allay our fears of the unknown, to help ensure our health, our jobs and our environment.
Do we still trust democracy as a political system to do this? Or are we secretly or openly convinced that strong, perhaps even authoritarian, forces are needed to solve the problems we face?
The glitches in our personal lives seem to be directly related to the glitches at the political level. Does the democratic system still work or are we facing an irreparable error?
In terms of sustaining democracy, first and foremost we need to understand: As long as democracy is seen by the majority only as the freedom to choose who to vote for, democracy remains weak and is always in danger of failing.
The reason is simple: voting alone is not enough to ensure that democracy is characterized by living participation in an open-minded community in which each individual has his or her own value and inviolable dignity.
Another reason is that democracy is usually not understood in its full extent. Democracy in a broader sense consists of
Participation in the production and organization of the conditions that ensure preservation.
Participation in the question of the value and meaning of preservation in light of the unavoidable dissolution of all that exists.
Participation in the communication of our common existence. We do this by unfolding our individual possibilities of movement, which consists in encoding the rhythm of participation according to our individual abilities - specifically through a telling that focuses on the enactment of participation.
…………
Group to activate:
A random group of participants assembled using a non-commercial pyramid scheme: three people approached by each student, each in turn approaching three people, and so on.
…………
Methodical Approach:
From the individual experience of dealing with our fears and desires, which are directly related to the fact of being part of a community that we always perceive ambivalently, both positively and negatively, we focus in the design work on "participation in the communication of our common existence".
