Uniforms of Identity
What
Is a uniform - in the sense of a suit, a business dress, a traditional suit, a carnival or theater costume - a way to playfully define our identity? Or are such uniforms tools that have always been used to standardize individual identity? Or, to change the perspective a bit, where is the almost invisible line that distinguishes one use from the other?
Why
The uniformation of our identity is not only to be seen in what we wear, but in general in the environment that surrounds us. We believe that it is necessary to begin to reflect on our identity through the things we use to cover our nakedness, and to use the knowledge gained in the courses to aestheticize anew our environment by redefining the concept of uniformity: from the uniformation of the mind of the people to the ability to share our unified needs in the diversity of cultural forms.
How
The question of how uniformized identities must be seen as one of the main reasons for the erosion of democracy is the theoretical side, part of the Disegno courses "Textile" and "Masks and Faces".
On the practical side, the participants follow the path of their respective clothing tradition and deconstruct the traditional garments in order to share the formative elements for new creations that fulfill the living contradiction we call "uniforms of diversity".
Discussions with sociologists and philosophers are part of the events in which the practical results will be shown to a wider audience in relation to the World Design Capital activities in 2026.
