Artificial Democracy – The Simulation

What

There is no doubt that the misuse of artificial intelligence is highly dangerous for democracy on many levels. Especially when it comes to the question of truth. What information, images, videos and arguments based on them can be trusted? Which arguments are based on so-called deep fakes? What is truth as such, what is pure manipulation?

Why

We believe that it is urgent to find new ways of mass media communication, social media communication and direct exchange between people. This is one of the main tasks of design today: to make sure that the given facts - the information based on images, video and audio - deliver an actual excerpt of reality and not a manipulated fake. Getting as concrete an idea as possible of what is true or false is one of the prerequisites for a stable democracy that is based on the diversity of coexistence.

How

Beginning in the 2024-2025 semester at the Academy of Visual Arts, Frankfurt, a series of undergraduate and graduate projects will be initiated that explicitly address the question of how artificial intelligence can be used to ensure the exchange of events, actions, and the corresponding information taken from physical reality. This research will cover both the technological level (in collaboration with programmers) and the aesthetic level. The results will be presented and implemented during the activities of "Frankfurt am Main - World Design Capital 2026" (Design for Democracy. Atmospheres for a better life).
